The following excerpt is from Beth Quinn's April 28, 2008 column in the Times Herald Record: Matchmaker to the producers, scoopers Talk about stepping in it.
Who knew there'd be so much interest in dog poop?
Not I, surely, when I wrote a column two weeks ago about the dog poop industry, which is tripping over itself with inventions to improve our quality of life while doing Poop Patrols.
Along with products like Poop Freeze and Doody Danglers, I mentioned a service called Pet Butler, which sends people to your house to conduct Poop Patrols on your behalf.
Pet Butlers doesn't have a local office, though, much to the disappointment of dog owners. The first call I got came in at 6:32 a.m. the day that column ran, and the phone rang steadily throughout the day.
"Is there a local company that does Poop Patrols?" everyone wanted to know. "I want to hire the job out!" At the same time, I began to hear from — you guessed it — local companies that do Poop Patrols.
Since there seems to be so much interest in the topic (and since this is National Scoop the Poop Week — really) I feel it is my doody, so to speak, to play Matchmaker to the Producers and the Scoopers.
The following entrepreneurs will happily do your dirty work for you. They are all local and are willing to travel a reasonable distance.
Plus, they all have really cool mottos.
Scoopie Doo Dog Waste Removal (Motto: Got Poopie? Call Scoopie!)
Based in Newburgh, this business takes dog poop seriously. Owner Shawn McKenna says dog waste is not just a nuisance, but also a health hazard.
And contrary to belief, Shawn says the waste does not just go away or get "sucked up" by the lawn mower. (I had no idea people were actually that stupid! Wow!)
Cost: $15-$25 per weekly visit for one to four dogs. The price goes up from there depending on the number of dogs and number of visits per week. (And get this! Apparently there's no differential for the size of the dog. St. Bernards, Shih Tzus — all the same.)
