5 Important Reasons to Clean up Pet Waste
by Drs Foster and Smith Veterinary Staff

#1 Disease Control

There are several very common diseases that can be transmitted to pets and people through feces. These include giardia, roundworms, salmonella, and E. coli. In addition, your dog can spread or contract parvovirus or coronavirus through infected feces. All of these diseases are very serious and common. Every effort should be made by pet owners to keep pets and family members away from potentially infected feces.

#2 Make your Yard More Usable

Nobody likes to walk through a yard that is hiding “doggie land mines”.  If your family is afraid to use the yard because of the dog, then you are wasting one of your biggest investments. In addition, the dog will have less interactive exercise and suffer as well.

#3 Fly Control

Flies consume and lay eggs in feces. These same flies will come into your house and spread disease as they pause on your counter and food.

#4 Preventing Stool Eating

While most dog owners think this doesn’t apply to them or their dog, the shocking truth is that most dogs will engage in this unsavory practice at some point in their life. Dogs evolved as carnivores/ scavengers and feces were considered fair game in lean times.

#5 Preventing Ground Water Pollution

Dog waste is not just a nuisance but is also a serious health hazard. Pet waste is a leading cause for nonpoint source pollution. Nonpoint source pollution is when snowmelt and rainwater moves over and into the ground. Researchers have found that polluted runoff is the number one cause of water pollution.

To prevent these and other health concerns, have the dog waste removed from your yard on a regular basis.

Scoopie Doo addresses these environmental problems by picking up the waste and removing it from your yard.
